Learn something new or work on improving a talent or skill of yours

“In learning you will teach, and in teaching you will learn.” ~ Phil Collins …

There are two things I can draw from Phil’s words: first, by teaching others, I will come to learn and understand things that can only be understood through the act of giving and teaching another. Second, to be able to accomplish this, I must first learn. This is a very important truth that speaks volumes to how important self-improvement is throughout our lives.

Our knowledge, our skills, our talents, our unique abilities–all will essentially stay at their same levels until we decide to work to improve them. But because it requires both time and effort on our part, improving ourselves is something that many of us consider to be work; its importance is therefore easily overlooked. But it is important that we allow ourselves some time–and put forth reasonable effort–to grow as individuals.

Take the time to recognize that your improvement will go on to help others–it will enable you to be more useful to those around you and will you to give to others in a way that only you can give. Read a good book to improve your knowledge. Attend a class or receive instruction that can help to build your skills and talents. The world will not learn until we learn ourselves.

Learn something new or work on improving a talent or skill of yours today.

Questions to consider:

What things have you learned from teaching others?

How could your improvement help others?

What are some of the easier ways that you could improve different aspects of who you are and what you are able to do?

For further thought:

“You cannot build a better world without improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for his or her own improvement, and at the same time show a general responsibility for all humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be most useful.” ~ Marie Curie
