Positive Actions

“The world is blessed most by people who do things, not by those who merely talk about them.” ~ James Oliver …

Have you ever stopped to consider just who might be adding blessings into the world around you? Better yet, how they might be doing so? I can tell you for a fact that it isn’t the talkers. The simple truth of the matter is that the blessings in our lives do not come from the individuals who have plenty of words but little action; nor do they come from the dreamers–those who are more than willing to lecture us on their ambitions and grand ideas, yet never make an effort to help those dreams materialize. The blessings in our lives come specifically from those individuals who have made the effort to fulfill the needs of others, who have dreamed big and then risked challenges and failure to make those dreams become a reality for the good of all. Spend Some Quality Time With Yourself!

“Being solitary is being alone well: being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice, aware of the fullness of your own presence rather than of the absence of others. Because solitude is an achievement, it is your distinctive way of embodying the purposes you have chosen for your life, deciding on these rather than others after deliberately observing and reflecting on your own doings and inclinings, then committing yourself to them for precisely these reasons.” ~ Alice Koller, The Stations of Solitude …

Although some of us might dread the thought of being alone, the benefits that are available to us through solitude are astounding and of great importance in our lives. Being alone offers us a fulfillment that can only come from activity that is purposeful, self-determined, and free-spirited. It is through our journeys in silence that we gain insightful and introspective understanding of ourselves so that in time, we might realize personal growth and meaning in our lives. Be The Best Of Yourself

“It is better to be known by six people for something you’re proud of than to be known by sixty million for something you’re not.” ~ Albert Lawrence Brooks …

Unfortunately, many of us grow up learning that more is better–that quantity somehow beats quality. How many individuals do we know who want to have all the songs they can in their music collection, or even all the exotic cars or fashion? Perhaps it is a result of our desire for fortune, fame, or power. Or maybe it is our fatalistic view of the world and our possessions; as if they indeed will someday disappear. Or perhaps it is simply a product of our pursuit for meaning and fulfillment in life. Yet in truth, more, very rarely means better. Continue reading

Unique Individuality And Perspective Of Others

“Man is not intended to see through the eyes of another, hear through another’s ears nor comprehend with another’s brain. Each human creature has individual endowment, power and responsibility in the creative plan of God. Therefore, depend upon your own reason and judgment and adhere to the outcome of your own investigation; otherwise, you will be utterly submerged in the sea of ignorance and deprived of all the bounties of God.” ~ Abdu’l-Baha …

We each have our own way of seeing the world. It is unique to each of us; it is our own, and we should value it above all other perspectives–for no one can see the world like we do. But in recognizing this truth, we must also accept our perspective for what it also is: a limited perspective on an unlimited world. Continue reading

The Paths You Choose

“By choosing our path, we choose our destination.” ~ Thomas S. Monson …

Choosing our own path in life can be intimidating and at times may seem overwhelming. Sure, the path may appear attractive at the moment, but what lies in wait for us just over the hill or around the next bend? When we travel down trails that have never been travelled before, more often than not, we are confronted with worries, fears, and uncertainties. Maybe there are dangerous creatures, or difficult obstacles. Perhaps we will regret the difficulty or suffering we must endure to continue down our path, or spend countless hours trying to make our way back to what we know is safe. Continue reading

Just As A Farmer Must Tend To His Crops If…

“All children wear the sign: “I want to be important NOW.” Many of our juvenile delinquency problems arise because nobody reads the sign.” ~ Dan G. Pursuit, former Director of DCI, USC.

Dan brings up a very good point here… a point that should concern each of us: “How can we expect children to behave properly, if we neglect–or miss–reading the signs that they are holding up for us?” Just as a farmer must tend to his crops if he expects to have a good harvest, we cannot possibly expect children to grow and develop well if we neglect to care for them and tend to their individual needs.
