Fearlessly Engage Yourself!

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” – Frank Herbert, Dune

As Frank says, “I must not fear.” I should choose to face my fears, to experience them and then pass them by… but I must not allow fear to exist as a determining factor within my mind. If I am able to do so, my fear will no longer exist, its purpose expired, it will fade away, and “only I will remain.”

Choose To Act–As Best You Know How

“In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.” – Theodore Roosevelt …

How many times have I found myself failing to act simply because I was afraid I would be wrong, or that I would be made fun of, or any number of similar reasons? Here, Theodore is imploring us to act; he is telling us that any action is better than no action. Sure, not all of my decisions will be correct… for no one is perfect. However, if I act according to my beliefs, then perhaps I will do the right thing… whereas if I do not act, the right thing has no chance at all. Continue reading

Stop Making Negative Judgmental Assumptions About People You Encounter

“How would your life be different if… You stopped making negative judgmental assumptions about people you encounter? Let today be the day… You look for the good in everyone you meet and respect their journey.” – Steve Maraboli …

We each are on a journey through life. And although it is a personal journey, we all experience many of the same things and respond similarly. Yet when I see the way others are acting in situations, it is tempting to see myself acting in much more acceptable and responsible way if I was in their place. It is easy for me to say, “If I were in that situation, I would…” It is easy for me to tell others how they should act or feel in situations, based on how I think I would feel, and what I think would be best for them.

Face Each Day With A Great Deal Of Courage, No Matter What The Situation

“It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a person stands up for an ideal or strikes out against injustice, he or she sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” – Robert F. Kennedy …

Good does not fight injustice in the course of a day; nor does good conquer evil in one fell swoop. Rather, it is through the “numberless diverse acts of courage and belief,” that good surmounts the “mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.” Continue reading

Put Away Your Fears And Stand Up For What You Believe In

“The greatest fear in the world is of the opinions of others. And the moment you are unafraid of the crowd you are no longer a sheep, you become a lion. A great roar arises in your heart, the roar of freedom.” – Osho …

How often have we seen people who are afraid of what others think of them? How many times in our own lives, have we caught ourselves being quiet and not standing up for what we believe in, or going against our morals and beliefs? Most likely, we all have been sheep at some time in our lives. However, we do not have to be silent. Each of us has the ability to roar like lions… to stand up courageously and let our voices be heard with confidence and conviction. Continue reading

You Cannot Possibly Have All The Answers In Life

“When push comes to shove, I’m going to figure out that this door needs to be pulled to be opened.” – Jarod Kintz …

Why not a little humor to get the point across? It sometimes seems that your ignorance and pride can have you pushing on doors that simply need pulling to be opened. For far too often in your life, you have found yourself missing out on opportunities to grow and learn, as a result of your preconceived notions or beliefs that you are unable to, or unwilling to, let go of. You may be right, or may often times be wrong, but if you always look at things from the perspective of “I am always right,” you will never grow beyond who you are now. Continue reading

Review Your Goals For The Year

“Individual commitment to a group effort–that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work.” – Vince Lombardi …

When we look at the effort of a group–whether that is a company, a congregation, or a team–it is the effort of each individual that truly determines the end result. We each determine the level of success of the group through our training, discipline, contributions, and resolve. And this is a wonderful thing to realize, for it empowers us with the ability to control our achievements and successes, not only on a personal level, but on the team level as well. Continue reading
