Court Dissolves Cleric’s 24-year-old Marriage


An Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday dissolved a 24-year-old marriage of a cleric over threat to his life by the wife.
“The court has no choice than to dissolve the union between Raheem Sanni and Rosemary, although the woman says she still loves the man,’’ the Court President, Mr R.I. Adeyeri, held.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the dissolution followed a petition by Raheem, 54, who said that Rosemary always threatened his life with dangerous weapons. Continue reading

Obanikoro Loses bid for Ikoyi council


The Election Appeal Tribunal sitting in Lagos today upheld the appeal filed by the ACN candidate against the election petition tribunal’s judgment declaring Mr. Babajide Obanikoro of the PDP as the winner of the local council election held in Ikoyi/Obalende Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, on 22 October, 2011.

In its unanimous decision, the 5-man Appeal Tribunal led by Justice Opeyemi Oke, quashed the decision of the lower tribunal based on two grounds. Continue reading

Bizman Docked For Paying Assassins To Kill Partner


A 44 -year old busines man has been arrested and charged before Igbosere Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attempting to kidnap and assassinate his business partner in order to take over their joint business.

Daniel C Nwafor was arrested after the police investigated the allegation made by his business partner, Emmanuel Okonkwo, that Nwafor allegedly offered an engineer that built his house in Lagos State  N7 million for the layout of his house  in an attempt to assassinate him  over the proceeds of a warehouse they jointly own. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has arrested twenty suspected internet fraudsters. The arrest which was carried out  in a joint operation with officers of the 4 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Benin, followed intelligence report on their activities. They were nabbed in a surprise raid on their Cyber office tucked in an old building located on Siluko Road, Benin City. Continue reading

Politicization Of CAN

Never in its recent history has there been schism that has threatened the ecumenism of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) since it was founded in 1976. Matters came to a head with the withdrawal at the national level of Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) from CAN, the umbrella body of Christian churches in Nigeria for promoting unity and peace among the various strata of society. The Catholic church suspended its activities in CAN citing “recent attitudes, utterances and actions of the national leadership of CAN which in our opinion negate the concept of the foundation of the association and the desire of Our Lord Jesus Christ”. Senate queries N4bn First Lady’s House


The Senate has expressed concerns over the N4bn earmarked for the construction of a mission house for the First Lady listed in the 2013 Budget of the Federal Capital Territory.It also queried the expenditure of N7.5billion for the management of  the city as well as the spending of N150million for the renovation of the Guest House of the Vice President in Asokoro, Abuja.

It considered for second reading on Thursday the budget of the FCTA totaling N253.199billion, of which N48.034billion is for personnel cost; N49.504billion is for overhead, while the balance of N155.66billion is for capital projects for the service of the FCT.
