Be Calm!

“Stop a minute, right where you are. Tell that imperious voice in your head to be still.” ~Barbara Kingsolver …

When life gets hectic and busy, all that busyness and stress can end up inside of us. This has a negative effect on us on all levels–mentally decreasing the amount of focus we can devote to tasks, physically decreasing our health and wellbeing, emotionally leaving us feeling exhausted and defeated, and spiritually leaving us feeling empty and alone. It is therefore imperative that we take the time to stop and still “that imperious voice in our head,” as Barbara tells us, whenever we find ourselves being hurried or overburdened. Continue reading

Take Good Care Of Today

“We can easily manage if we will only take, each day, the burden appointed to it. But the load will be too heavy for us if we carry yesterday’s burden over again today, and then add the burden of the morrow before we are required to bear it.” ~John Newton …

Today holds requirements of us, most of which become unmanageable when we are not completely present. As John points out, this means not carrying the burdens of yesterday with us, nor adding to our burdens by worrying about tomorrow. What happened yesterday is done and gone, and there is no need to dwell on it. Doing so only serves to weigh down our hearts and minds with feelings and information we already had to deal with yesterday. And whatever is going to happen in our future, will be experienced and taken care at the appointed time. Worrying about it now only serves to waste precious time and subvert our focus on what is happening right here, right now. Continue reading

Ability To Make Choices

“You don’t have to defend or explain your decisions to anyone. It’s your life. Live it without apologies.” ~Mandy Hale …

Have you ever felt that you had to explain or defend a decision you made that you knew in your heart to be the right choice? Have you ever felt bad or guilty for having to turn down an invitation from someone? We often feel as though we have to explain, justify, and defend our decisions to others, and that we cannot act unless their approval has been granted. However, when we give up that level of freedom in our lives, we relinquish control and lose our authenticity–we deny ourselves the very uniqueness we possess as a one-of-a-kind person, created by the hands of a God who loves us dearly. But at the same time, it is important that we understand that if our decisions affect the lives of others, we must exhibit caution and prudence so that we do not harm them with our actions. You can embrace your freedom… as long as your choices do not diminish the freedom of others. Continue reading

Choose To Live Life To The Fullest

“The tragedy of life is not death but what we let die inside of us while we live.” ~Norman Cousins …

A life not lived to the fullest is the true tragedy of life. The older we get, the more we are convinced that the true waste of our lives is shirking from difficulty and pain, avoiding risks, failing to give of our love, and refusing happiness. Death cannot diminish the potential we possess to live life to the fullest… only we can do that… by choosing to let the fire within us die while we walk this earth. Continue reading

Peace Is Within Us

“You must daily practice the habit of putting your mind at rest, “going into the silence,” as it is commonly called. This is a method of replacing a troubled thought with one of peace, a thought of weakness with one of strength.” ~James Allen …

Peace–the kind that resides deep within us that no one can take away–is not something one can just find, create, or purchase. It is something one must learn and practice daily. As James tells us, it is the habitual practice of “putting our mind at rest,” of ridding our minds of the “troubled thoughts and thoughts of weakness.” Continue reading

Your “Truth Within”

“Go deep and live life from your truth within, and watch your most authentic self, full of love, peace, and beauty manifest out into the world.” ~D.S. Clark …

Our authentic self–the “truth within” that radiates goodness, love, and beauty into the world–is contained within us. Unfortunately, many individuals have not discovered this truth, or have but are afraid or refuse to let it shine forth, and this leaves them with few places to go when they need peace in their lives. Not knowing our true authentic self, leaves us lost and confused–without a sense of balance and belonging and unsure of who we are in this world. Continue reading

Keep A Positive Perspective

“There are always two voices sounding in our ears: the voice of fear and the voice of confidence. One is the clamor of the senses, the other is the whispering of the higher self.” ~Charles B. Newcomb …

There are many times in our lives in which we will hear “the voice of fear,” of doubt and uncertainty, of littleness and ridicule, of surrender and defeat. And in those times, we if we listen for it, we will also find “the voice of confidence,” of assuredness and indomitable spirit, of optimism and encouragement, of victory and perseverance. As Charles points out, the voice of fear is like a clamor, perhaps from our mortal self, and is confused and afraid. The other is from our “higher self,” and is concise and clear. It is up to us which voice we choose to listen to. Continue reading
