Indwelling God

“Deep in the soul, below pain, below all the distraction of life, is a silence vast and grand–an infinite ocean of calm, which nothing can disturb; nature’s own exceeding peace, which “passes understanding.” That which we seek with passionate longing, here and there, upward and outward; we find at last within ourselves.” ~ C.M.C. quoted by R.M. Bucke …

This follows along the same lines of thinking that I touched upon yesterday: we each possess within our souls, all that we seek with passionate longing for in life. And there in that beautiful, private, and divine place within… not only do we find peace, and an infinite ocean of calm, but we find our very Creator–the indwelling God.

Unfortunately, many of the societies in which we live encourage us to look outside of ourselves for growth, understanding, and fulfillment in life. This only seems to be compounded by the fact that many of the things outside of us–such as acquiring new possessions, filling our time with mindless entertainment, or even striving to gaining power, wealth, money, or validation–can often bring us instant gratification. But this instant gratification can quickly become something that we depend upon, which because of the perpetual nature of this cycle, only serves to distract us from looking in the one place that we need to be looking.

We hold within us amazing ideas, invaluable abilities, and endless understanding waiting to be discovered and let out. Set aside time to find more peace and fulfillment within. Take the opportunity to learn more about yourself–what is within you, as well as what you ultimately seek in life. It is easy to get caught up in searching the endless trails outside of ourselves for a path leading back within. But it is much easier to simply journey within today to find the peace of mind, body, and soul we seek for fulfillment in our lives.

Discover some additional peace within yourself.

Questions to consider:

Do you place most of your attention on things outside of yourself, or on your inner self? Why?

What things do you seek? Have you found any of them yet?

Who are some individuals you know who value and cherish their inner self? How are they able to do so?

For further thought:

“We have what we seek. It is there all the time, and if we give it time, it will make itself known to us.” ~ Thomas Merton
