Spiritual Awakening

“We should give meaning to life, not wait for life to give us meaning.” ~
unknown …

Our lives have inherent meaning… by the mere fact that we were created and placed on this earth. But beyond this, all meaning in life is comprised of whatever we make of it–whatever meaning we give to life. If I want my life to be about living it to the fullest, I have only to go out and do so. If I want to make a positive impact in the world and in the lives of others, I have only to seek out those in need, those who are neglected, and those who are poor in mind, body, spirit, and heart. However, if I do not actively seek out meaning in life, if instead I choose to wait for life to give meaning to my life, I will find myself waiting in the harbor on my ship that is till anchored to the ground.

This is a call to action… a plea to each of us to be the captain of our vessel, to take control of our ship and actively steer its course. You see, if life had meaning apart from what we give to it, there would be no room for individual growth as everything would be defined for us already. But as most of us know from years of exploration and discovery, understanding and growth, adding meaning to life means finding ourselves and what our lives our about on our own terms, in our own time.

Seek actively. Search endlessly. In the end, it will always be that the meaning of our life is exactly what we bring to it. It is really up to you and me, and there is no one answer or path for everyone.

Pursue a deeper sense of meaning and spiritual awakening in your life.

Questions to consider:

What meanings have you brought to your life so far?

How do the meanings in your life differ than those of people you know?

What are some ways in which you can explore new meanings? How can you add them to your life?

For further thought:

“Life has no meaning. Each of us has meaning and we bring it to life. It is a waste to be asking the question when you are the answer.” ~ Joseph Campbell
