“We need others. We need others to love and we need to be loved by them. There is no doubt that without it, we too, like the infant left alone, would cease to grow, cease to develop, choose madness and even death.” ~Leo Buscaglia …
We need each other. This can be both a scary, and a fulfilling realization. Scary perhaps because many of our vulnerabilities are thus laid bare. On the other hand, our need for others opens the doors for personal growth and understanding. By needing others, we offer purpose to their life, as well as create it for our own. It may be true that we risk safety and comfort in needing others. But as Leo points out, the alternative is to cease to develop, to cease to grow, an almost certain claim to a madness that will eat away at the life we have within us.
Love is all around us. It is in every single person that you see each day, and you and I must have it. Unfortunately, sometimes we do not receive enough of it. Likewise, sometimes we do not give enough to others. And that is sad. The irony of it all is that we are loved… loved by a God who created us, and loved by our brothers and sisters who share in this experience of life. Yet because we sometimes feel unloved, we bring negativity into our lives and hide our love away.
Love is necessary… and we can share it with each other. Do so as much as possible and do not hold back. For the more love you share… the fuller your own cup becomes.
Show love in your interactions with others today.
Questions to consider:
What are some of the feelings you experience when you feel unloved?
What changes in your life when you feel loved?
How can you share your love with others? Can you identify anyone who needs it today?
For further thought:
‘We have to allow ourselves to be loved by the people who really love us, the people who really matter. Too much of the time, we are blinded by our own pursuits of people to love us, people that don’t even matter, while all that time we waste and the people who do love us have to stand on the sidewalk and watch us beg in the streets! It’s time to put an end to this. It’s time for us to let ourselves be loved.” ~C. JoyBell C.
