“You are a child of the universe, “fearfully and wonderfully made.” In the history of creation, there has never been anyone like you. Accept this reality about yourself–that you are a special, unique human being who has a place on this earth that no one else can fill. Acknowledge yourself as a glorious expression of your loving Creator. This healthy self-love will form the foundation of a joyful and satisfying life. Then, as you love and accept yourself, your inner light will shine outward to bless and heal your fellow human beings.” ~Douglas Bloch …
Wow! What an amazing concept: “there has never been anyone like you.” The person we see when we look in the mirror was created uniquely and intentionally–we have a purpose that only we can fulfill. And as Douglas points out here, when we accept this self-love of our creation and existence, we lay the foundation to living a full and happy life.
But having a strong foundation is only part of what Douglas is talking about; I also need to live my life with purpose. I like to think of it as if I were constructing a lighthouse for ships out on the waters of life. First, I need to pick a good and solid location, somewhere that is also useful and visible. Then I need to build upon it with strong and durable materials. Finally, once I have created this wonderful and purposeful beacon for ships at sea, I am able to purposefully let my light shine for all to see.
We all have great worth and purpose in life. We need not be famous, rich, or even a role model for others to see, all that is necessary is a sincere desire to do the right thing. Thus, with a “healthy self-love,” one can inspire anyone and leave a tremendous impact of goodwill upon their hearts.
Take some time to foster a healthy self-love.
Questions to consider:
Why do we sometimes see others as better than ourselves?
What are some of the effects of seeing ourselves as “less” than others?
How does our self-love affect others in our life?
For further thought:
“And like flowers in the fields, that make wonderful views, when we stand side-by-side in our wonderful hues…
We all make a beauty so wonderfully true.
We are special and different, and just the same, too!
So whenever you look at your beautiful skin, from your wiggling toes to your giggling grin…
Think how lucky you are that the skin you live in, so beautifully holds the “You” who’s within.”
