“The world does not stand or fall with discoveries or inventions, nor with the trample of armed hosts and the thunder of bombing planes. The world stands or falls with the laws of life which Heaven has written in the human conscience.” – Pierre Van Paasen …
Pierre tells us here that our conscience is the last hope for the survival of what is good in this world. New discoveries–like fetal stem cell therapy and cloning–will bring into question our morals; wars will be fought by both men with good and evil hearts; but none of these will ultimately determine if our would should stand or fall. It is in the “human conscience”–the hearts of mankind–where such determination lies.
Most of us think that we can fight the evils of the world with force and overcome them, however, this cannot be. It is only through our internal struggles–our moral victories and our daily actions, even on the smallest levels–that truly hold sway over the evils of the world. And the true goal of our growth on this Earth is neither economic nor political; we are here neither to gain power nor to gain riches. We are here to develop spiritually and to help others to do the same. Imagine what it would be like living in a world where selfishness, hate, greed, lust, and power rule the hearts of men. When society ceases to care about morality and stewardship, when our hearts lose the fire of righteousness… that is when the world falls.
Take a moment each morning to reflect upon what is in your heart. For the laws of life are written there by Heaven. And if you allow yourself to be always aware of them, and trust yourself to live those laws, you will find life to be an incredibly beautiful experience–an experience that you can share and spread throughout the world.
Take a moment to reflect upon the laws within your heart.
Questions to consider:
What are some of the laws of life you know in your heart to be true?
What is the difference between the true laws of life and those laws created by mankind for others to follow?
What kinds of things might keep you from seeing and feeling the laws of life which Heaven has written in your conscience?
