How Bloggers Exposed Nokia’s False Advert Claims

Facts have emerged on how Nokia deceived consumers to purchase its new phone brand, Lumia 920, with fraudulent advert claims.

In its current advert running in most local and international media, Nokia in efforts to hype the camera capacity of its new phone brand popularly known as Nokia Pureview, fraudulently used scene shots and video taken with professional video and still camera. The phone company falsely claimed that the scenes shots in the advert were taken with Nokia Pureview.

Eagle eye tech bloggers have, however, exposed the deception and attacked the company for lying to consumers. The bloggers who noticed the deception said the images used in the advert were not actually captured by the Lumia device. They explained that Nokia instead used a hand-held video camera and lighting rig to create the marketing materials and then compared the technology with their competitors

Presently, Nokia has been forced to apologise for misleading consumers with the new line of phones. The company said this week that it actually didn’t use the “PureView” camera on its new Lumia 920 phone to shoot video that it used in the advert. The company admitted that some of its photography samples were simulations.

Nokia’s mistake couldn’t have come at a worse time. The company is now seeking to regain its position in the smartphone market after losing massive amounts of market share. Now, the company must work to regain consumer confidence. Once, the leading company in the Smartphone market, Nokia has been conquered by Apple and Samsung, among others.

Nokia Chief Executive, Stephen Elop, said the new Nokia phone is operational, but failed to disclose the cost and availability of the new line during the September 5 launch event.

With regard to the camera snafu, Nokia issued this statement to the public: “Nokia recently apologised when it became clear that a video, which had been produced to demonstrate the benefits of optical image stabilisation, failed to make clear that it was a simulation only and not shot using the new PureView camera on the Nokia Lumia 920. This video was produced when the Nokia Lumia 920 was in preproduction.

“While there was no intention to mislead, the failure to add a disclaimer to the video was obviously a mistake, and we apologise for the misunderstanding it did cause.”

The Nokia Lumia 920 has a 4.5-inch curved glass display with 1280-pixel-by-768-pixel resolution, a 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
